SAGDB youngsters shine at Boland Champs

Players from the SA Golf Development Board put in a strong showing at the recent Boland Junior Championships held at Somerset West Golf Club. Juniors from the development programme won both the B and C divisions of the strokeplay event.

14-year old Trevor Thomas claimed the B-division crown, with a 36-hole score of 163. He shot a confident 77 in the second round to win by four shots from fellow SAGDB player Andre Links.

Allistair Beukes won the C-division. The 13-year old carded a round of 91 in the 18-hole event to win on a count out. More...

Mangaliso aims high

The SA Golf Development Board has always placed a lot of emphasis on its programmes in the Eastern Cape. The province has a strong sporting culture that makes it a vital area for development. The region is also deeply impoverished, meaning that the development board's emphasis on using golf as a tool for social upliftment is particularly relevant.

Due to this focus, a number of the SAGDB's top players have come from the Eastern Cape. Girls show potential at Eastern FS champs

16-year old Ntsoaki Mokoena and 14-year old Zanele Mazibuko are the two top girl players in the SA Golf Development Board programme in the Free State. Their progress over the last few years has been very encouraging, and both of them competed in the recent Eastern Free State Junior Championships.

Ntsoaki, who currently plays of a 9 handicap, carded rounds of 85 and 91 in difficult conditions, while Zenele, who's handicap is 20, shot 92 and 97. More...

The SA Golf Development Board recently sent a team of eight players to compete at the KwaZulu-Natal Schools Golf Championships played at Cotswold Downs Golf Course. Out of the 12 teams that competed, the SAGDB recorded an honourable sixth place finish. More...

Three SAGDB boys in WP invitational team

Three players from the SA Golf Development Board were included in the recent WP Invitational u/13 team that competed in an inter-provincial event in the Boland. 12-year old Dylan Scholtz and 13-year olds Riaan Beukes and Chesley Gamba were chosen for the team on the strength of their performances in Junior Golf Foundation events.
