Crown Mines and Ostle set benchmark in Central Gauteng

Since the SAGDB rolled out its programme countrywide in 1999, golf development in provinces such as Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Province, Border, Western Province and Free State has grown in leaps and bounds. However, for one reason or another, the programme never really got a proper footing in Central Gauteng.

Two SAGDB players in WP u/12 squad

Two promising youngsters from the SAGDB's programme in Western Province have been selected to represent their region at the 2011 Ke Nako SA u/12 Team Championship. The event, which is the biggest national tournament at this age level, will be held at Kingswood Golf Estate in George from 3 to 5 October.

Success at Maggersfontein

Two SAGDB players put in winning performances at the recent Free State and Northern Cape Junior Golf tournament at Maggersfontein Estate Golf Club. Mojalefa Xaba and Tumelo Molloyi, who are both also associate members of the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation, won the u/19 and u/16 divisions of the competition respectively.

Enjoying the Road to Pezula

This year Boland Junior Golf introduced an exciting new initiative for its players called "The Road to Pezula". The aim of the project was to select the top junior players in each age group for a special weekend of coaching and playing at the Pezula Championship Golf Course in Knysna.

SAGDB players shine in the Southern Cape

Twelve players from the SAGDB's programme in the Southern Cape competed in the recent Southern Cape Junior Golf tournament held at Fancourt. This contingent made up nearly one fifth of the 62-player field.

Taking golf to Diepsloot

In its efforts to grow the game of golf around the Central Gauteng region, the SAGDB has become involved in efforts to revitalise the driving range at Diepkloof prison. The range has been in existence for many years, but fell into disuse until the Central Gauteng Golf Union and subsequently the SAGDB stepped in.

Boost for Free State & Northern Cape

The Free State & Northern Cape Golf Union has thrown its support behind the SAGDB's operations in the region. The union's president, Mr. Peter Hantan, has pledged R80 000 from the union towards supporting the SAGDB programme.

About the SAGDB

The SAGDB is a non-profit organisation (with section 18A donations tax exemption status). Through its PGA-approved coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 1,500 children per week in nine areas. The SAGDB is sponsored by SAA, City Lodge and ProRange.
