A step up in Gauteng North

The SAGDB's programme in Gauteng North took a big leap forward during the recent school holidays when learners from the region competed in official junior golf tournaments for the first time. Six of the SAGDB's top players were entered into four different events, where they experienced the demands of competitive golf.

Positives in Western Province

The recent school holidays gave SAGDB players in Western Province the opportunity to compete at eight official junior golf events around the Cape peninsula. Although the weather didn't always play along, the youngsters produced some encouraging golf.

Border's best take on the ladies

The two top junior's in the SAGDB's Border programme enjoyed an interesting outing in July when they were invited to play against three of the ladies in the Border inter-provincial team. 17-year old Masibulele Vamsinya and 15-year old Chuma Adonis took on Millie Zim, Demi Flannagan and Harmien Jones in foursomes and singles and gave the ladies a real run for their money.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
