Up and up for Siyanda

Siyanda Mwandla's rise from a caddy at the Mandini Golf Club to one of the most promising juniors in KwZulu-Natal golf has been nothing short of astonishing. The 17-year old joined the SAGDB just four years ago, and in that time he has brought his handicap down to two and become a constant feature in junior tournaments in his home province.

SAGDB learners shine at Glacier Junior Series tournament

Up-and-coming junior golfers from the SAGDB's programme in the Border region were recently given the chance to showcase their budding talent on the Glacier Junior Series. They teed it up in the 19th tournament of the series, hosted in East London by Africa Open chairman Khaya Ngqula.

Hobbers and Legs make major donation to SAGDB

The SAGDB received a significant boost last month through a major donation from Master PGA Professional and renowned coach, Gavan Levenson and former professional Justin Hobday. The pair handed over a cheque for R115,000 to the country's leading development organisation with the simple instruction to "spend it where it's most needed".

Good return at u/14 Invitational

Players from the SAGDB's ranks in three provinces played leading roles in the recent Boland u/14 Invitational staged at Worcester Golf Club. Although the conditions were extremely cold and windy, the youngsters produced some sizzling golf.

As the Southern Cape continues to grow in stature as a leading golfing destination, the SAGDB's operations in that region are also going from strength to strength. About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
