Central Gauteng wins, but Presidents Team steals the show at SA Challenge IPT

Central Gauteng claimed a crucial one point final round victory over a SA Junior Golf side to come up trumps in this year's SA Challenge Inter-Provincial, but it was the eight development players from the Presidents Team who stole the show at Cullinan Golf Club during May.

Good return at Porterville

At the recent Porterville Junior Open, the SAGDB's elite squad in Boland once again proved how successful the programme is that region. Ten SAGDB players entered their tournament, and their performances dominated the leaderboard.

Positive showing in Knysna

A number of SAGDB players put in excellent performances at the recent Southern Cape Junior Golf Tournament held at Knysna Golf Club. Their results once again showed the growing strength of the programme in the region.

Success at Alex

The recent Alex Junior Open provided an opportunity for a selection of SAGDB players from Border to test themselves against the top juniors in the region. Their encouraging performances showed that the SAGDB's programme there is producing good results.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
