Siyanda shines at Nomads Champs

The SAGDB's leading player in KZN, Siyanda Mwandla, has once again displayed his talent by winning the 2012 Nomads KZN Junior Matchplay Championships. The victory makes Siyanda the first black player in the history of the tournament to take home the trophy.

Great experience at Hexangular

Thirteen players from the SAGDB competed at the recent u/17 and u/19 inter-provincial Hexangular played at Somerset West Golf Club. The matchplay event gave the youngsters a rare opportunity to take on the best of their peers in this exciting format.

A good year for Boland

Players from the SAGDB in Boland underlined a strong year in the province at the recent Mini Masters played at Kuilsriver Golf Club. The event was won by 17-year old Trevor Thomas, who carded rounds of 70 and 76 to win by one shot from fellow SAGDB player Dylan Jacobs who shot 73 and 74.

SAGDB gets equipment boost from Sunshine Tour and Acushnet

On the eve of the BMG Classic at Glendower Golf Club last month, the Sunshine Tour and Acushnet South Africa continued their longstanding tradition of giving back to the game with a donation of 20,000 Titleist ProV1 balls to the SAGDB.

WC Sport School wins WP league

Learners at the Western Cape Sport School made a big statement when they won the B Division of the Western Cape Schools League last month. The six player team, which included four boys from the SAGDB's programme in the province, trounced Bishops in the final to take the title.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
