SAGDB influence felt at IPT

The 52nd South African Inter-Provincial Championship played at Nelson Mandela Bay last month was one of the most memorable in the history of the tournament. The final day showdown between eventual co-winners Boland and Western Province and defending champions Central Gauteng will be remembered for many years to come.

New equipment boosts SAGDB

One of the obstacles the SAGDB faces in its nationwide programmes is a shortage of correctly-sized junior equipment. A golf swing should be as natural as possible, but children using larger equipment are not utilising their natural swing plane.

Keelan does it again

16-year old SAGDB star Keelan Africa won his fourth junior title of the year when he took the honours at the recent Swellendam Junior Open. Keelan carded a round of 74 to finish on top of the field.

SAGDB pair show promise at under 13 champs

Two of the SAGDB's rising stars in Western Province, 12-year old Hilmi Mallick and 10-year old Tristan Gallant, recently teed up in the 2012 Nomads SA u13 Championship. Both youngsters performed well at this national event that attracts the top talent in the age group from across South Africa.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
