"An experience money can't buy"

Two of the SAGDB's most promising juniors, 17-year old Keelan Africa and 15-year old Dylan Jacobs are home again after the most extraordinary school holiday of their lives. The two spent three weeks in Scotland as guests of the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) where they played on some of the world's most famous courses, visited the R & A Clubhouse, and experienced the atmosphere at the British Open.

Franklin wins two in two

One of the Southern Cape's most promising young golfers, 15-year old Franklin Manchest, enjoyed an amazing start to the month of August. The 2 handicapper from George produced some sensational golf to win two events in two days over the first weekend of the month.

SAGDB dominates Boland Champs

For the second year in a row an SAGDB player has taken the top honours at the Boland Junior Championships. Last year Keelan Africa won the coveted Matchplay title, and this year his feat was matched by his close friend Neswill Croy.

President's team earns promotion

The KZN President's Team has earned promotion to the B Division of the province's scratch league after winning the C division for 2013. The team is made up of the top u23 players from development programmes in the region.

Ridaah scoops honours at WP Junior Champs

The annual Western Province Junior Championships were played over the July school holidays and as usual the SAGDB had a strong presence at the event.

Five SAGDB players in Boland teams

Following the success that SAGDB players enjoyed at the recent Boland Junior Championships, it's no surprise that five of them have been selected to junior provincial teams for tournaments next month.

Chandler shines for Central Gauteng

Promising 14-year old Chandler Shaw was picked to play in first position for the Central Gauteng u15 team at the recent inter-provincial quadrangular in Mpumalanga. The event, which was contested between Central Gauteng, Gauteng North, Mpumalanga and Ekurhuleni was held at the White River Country Club.

Success for KZN players at Glacier event

The Glacier by Sanlam Junior Series passed through KwaZulu-Natal in July when the Papwa Sewgolum Tournament was hosted at Durban Country Club. Sewgolum was a pioneer for golfers of colour in South Africa, famously beating Gary Player for the 1965 Natal Open.

Good showing at Boland Foursomes

The Boland Golf Union held its annual Boland Foursomes at the Paarl Golf Club during July. SAGDB players performed strongly at the event, taking first and second place in the junior competition.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
