Strong showing at Mowbray

The first SAGA NOMADS National Order of Merit event for 2013 was held at Mowbray Golf Club during January. These events allow juniors to accumulate points towards the national u/19, u/17 and u/15 Orders of Merit.

SAGDB boys hold their own at u15 Champs

Eight players from the SAGDB took part in the recent SA Boys u/15 Championships at Centurion Golf Club. The event, which attracted a field of 113 players, is the premier national tournament for this age group.

Hayden wins in Somerset West

He is just 15 years old, but Hayden Garcia is already establishing himself as one of the most promising players in the SAGDB's programme in Western Province. His handicap is down to two and his stroke average is the best of all the SAGDB players in the region.

Letsai starts the year well

Over the last few years Letsai Lotsoso has been identified as an emerging talent in the Free State & Northern Cape region. The 17-year old currently plays off a 3 handicap, and has already represented his province at u/17 and u/15 level.

Early success in Gauteng North

The SAGDB programme in Gauteng North is steadily growing its influence in that province. Through talent identification, dedicated coaching and the outstanding support from Hillside Golf Club, players in the region are now starting to make an impact at official junior golf events.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
