Keelan and Dylan head for Scotland

Two of the SAGDB's brightest young stars, 16 year old Keelan Africa and 15 year old Dylan Jacobs from Boland, will enjoy an extraordinary school holiday this July. Instead of spending it in their native Western Cape, the two will be flying to Scotland to play on some of the world's most famous courses.

Good performances in KZN

Five players from the SAGDB were entered into the recent 2013 KZN Amateur Open Championships. The tournament is held in two parts, with players first contesting 36 holes of strokeplay to qualify for the 32 places available in the matchplay event.

Chandler part of winning Central Gauteng team

14 year old Chandler Shaw is one of the brightest prospects in the SAGDB's programme in Central Gauteng. He has become a regular in his age group provincial team and was recently selected to play at the CGGU Quadrangular inter-provincial event, which also included teams from Mpumalanga, Ekurhuleni and Gauteng North.

The Glacier by Sanlam Junior Series has quickly established itself as a big part of the junior golfing scene in South Africa. The series attracts top junior golfers at every venue it is played.

Treger supports SAGDB efforts

Lifestyle and sporting brands company Treger has given a boost to the SAGDB's programme in Central Gauteng through a donation of over 20 pro tournament bags and a selection of loose clubs. The Cleveland and Calloway equipment will be distributed amongst the top players in the region.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
