SAGDB players earn their place in SC team

Two 14-year old SAGDB players - Franklin Manchest and Virgill April - have been included in the Southern Cape u15 for the upcoming Fish River Challenge. Franklin is currently first on the provincial u15 order of merit, while Virgill is in seventh place.

Six SAGDB players in Boland teams

The annual Fish River Challenge, held at the Gary Player-designed Fish River Country Club, is one of the highlights of the year for u13 and u15 players in the southern provinces. The tournament is contested between teams from Border, Eastern Province, Southern Cape, Western Province, Boland and the Free State.

Solid returns at Clarens

The 2013 Clarens Junior Open was played recently at the Clarens Golf Estate in the Eastern Free State. Ten SAGDB players were in the field of 99 juniors that gathered from across the Free State & Northern Cape region for the event.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
