Tristan wins at Fish River

One of the brightest prospects in the SAGDB programme, Tristan Galant from Western Province, recorded a superb victory at the recent inter-provincial Fish River Challenge. The 11-year old became the first SAGDB player to finish in first place at the event, beating thirty-five other juniors to the title.

Boland ladies team gets SAGDB influence

The two most promising girls in the SAGDB's programme in the Boland have both been included in the Boland Ladies B team for the Womens Golf SA 72 Hole Teams Championship 2013. The tournament will take place at Maccauvlei Golf Club from 26 to 29 May.

Two Boland youngsters in President's Team

Keelan Africa and Neswill Croy may be only 16 and 17 years old respectively, but their young golfing careers are already littered with accolades. The two are currently first and third on the SAGDB national order of merit and both are amongst the top five junior golfers in the Boland.

Good showing at SCJG Strokeplay Championship

Players from the SAGDB programme in the Southern Cape performed strongly at the recent Southern Cape Junior Golf Strokeplay Championship held at Riversdal Golf Club. The event is one of the highlights of the junior golf calendar in the region and SAGDB players claimed prizes across all three divisions.

Support from World of Golf

The World of Golf has leant its weight to the SAGDB programme in Central Gauteng by inviting the region's elite squad to practice at the facility on a fortnightly basis. The elite squad is made up of the 12 most promising boys and girls in the local programme.

Central Gauteng boosted by donation of Ping clubs

Opal Sportswear, the agent for Ping in South Africa, has shown its support of the SAGDB through handing over hundreds of clubs to the development programme in Gauteng. The clubs will be used to support the growth of the programme in the region.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
