Boland recognises SAGDB players

The SAGDB enjoyed a rewarding weekend at the recent Boland Mini Masters. Not only did the board's players perform brilliantly at the tournament itself, but they also earned a number of awards at the annual prize-giving that followed.

Riaan and Franklin come close in SC

In a demonstration of its growing strength in the province, the SAGDB had three players progress to the quarter-finals of the recent Southern Cape Junior Matchplay Championships. Hans Jurie Human, Riaan Grootboom and Franklin Manchest were all amongst the last eight that took to the Fancourt Links for the last playoff rounds.

Crystal off to India

The SAGDB's top girl player, Crystal Beukes, has been selected to compete at the 6th Albatross International Junior Golf Championships taking place next month in India. Crystal's participation is being made possible by Womens Golf South Africa.

Two good results for Craig

Craig Baba is one of many exciting talents coming through the SAGDB's ranks in Western Province. He is only 16 years old, but he has already brought his handicap down to scratch and is holding his own against top u19 players in junior tournaments in the province.

Swellendam High wins SAGDB Boland Schools League

The final round of the 2014 SAGDB Boland Schools League was held at Riverside Golf Club on 30 October. The league was fiercely contested between four schools, Worcester Secondary, Esselen Park High, Breeriview High and Swellendam High.

Nedbank Affinity Cup cheque handover

Louis de Jager walked away with R118,875 for his victory and Nedbank contributed an equal amount to help grow the game through the South African Golf Development Board.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
