SAGDB players lead Border's charge at Womens IPT

The Border team secured victory in the B Section Division 1 of the recent Pick n Pay SA Womens Inter-Provincial Tournament, inspired by the performances of three SAGDB graduates. Sisters Siviwe and Yolanda Duma together with Zethu Myeki made up the bulk of the four-player team that secured an unbeaten run to top the B Division.

SAGDB players star in Boland victory at Heptangular

Teams from the Boland claimed victory in both the u17 and u19 events at this year's Nomads MFC Auto Imperial Heptangular held in George earlier this month. This is the first time in the tournament's history that a single province has won both age groups.

SAPS gets behind golf in KZN

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has given a welcome boost to the SAGDB's programmes in KwaZulu-Natal. Last month it held the SAPS inter-provincial event at Selborne Golf Club and used the occasion to drum up support for development in the province.

Strong showing at Kei Mouth

Players from the SAGDB programme in Border made their presence felt in all three divisions at the recent Kei Mouth Junior Open. In total, six SAGDB players were amongst the prizes on the day.

The SAGDB came close to recording a rare trifecta at the recent Witbank Junior Open in Mpumalanga. Players from the programme in the region were in contention in all of the divisions and narrowly missed out on winning all three.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
