Hess was a champion of development

Rodney Hess, who served for many years as the SAGDB's development manager for Western Province, passed away last month. He will be remembered as a servant of the game and a champion of golf development.

Banele secures a bursary from Middelburg High

One of the SAGDB's most promising players in Mpumalanga, Banele Mavuso, has been given a great opportunity by Middelburg High School. Banele has been awarded a bursary that will cover his tuition as well as part of his fees at the school hostel.

Crystal selected for IPT

The top girl in the SAGDB's national programme, Crystal Beukes from the Boland, has for some time been recognised as an exceptional talent. The 13-year old from St Peters Academy in Strand has established herself not only as a top junior, but is already being noticed in the senior ranks.

Dylan shares the spoils in Paarl

The SAGDB's Boland programme recorded another success last month when 16-year old Dylan Jacobs tied for first place at the Paarl Open. Dylan carded rounds of 75 and 72 to finish on a 36-hole score of 3 over par, level with Carlo O'Reilly.

Keelan Africa from the SAGDB's Boland programme has for many years been recognised as a special talent. He has shown the ability and the determination to compete at big events across the province and beyond.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
