Carl lifts Curro Aurora to second at Ernie's Championship

Carl Mwale underlined his position as one of the SAGDB's most promising young talents in Central Gauteng by starring at the recent Ernie Els Primary Schools Championship. Carl was part of the Curro Aurora team that was defending the titles they won last year.

So close for Clint

One of the SAGDB's top players in Boland, Clint Jansen, will be battling with mixed emotions after his performances during the July school holidays. The 17-year old from Bredasdorp put in two outstanding showings at two Glacier Junior Series events in the Cape, but fell agonisingly short of victory on both occassions.

Schalk takes a share of first in Nelspruit

17-year old Schalk Grobler finished in a tie for first place at the recent Nelspruit Junior Open in Mpumalanga. Schalk carded rounds of 74 and 76 for a 36-hole score of 6-over par that saw him level with Brandon Geere.

Success in Gauteng

SAGDB players in Gauteng enjoyed a good run of form over the recent July school holidays. In a packed schedule that covered ten tournaments in just 26 days, a number of players proved themselves on the course.

Riaan and Aidon star for Theewaterskloof

Two of the SAGDB's most promising young players in the Boland, Riaan Rooi and Aidon Willemse, were part of the Theewaterskloof team that won the recent Boland Junior Club Teams Championships. The two were part of a dominant quartet that won the event by 11 shots from their own B team in the final.

Boland mourns the loss of Quinton Stone

The golf development programme in Boland suffered a heavy loss during July with the passing of one of its most respected coaches. Quinton Stone, who had been the coach of the Stellenbosch chapter since 2010, passed away at the age of 50.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
