Hayden part of victorious WP team

The SAGDB's Hayden Garcia ended a great year as part of the six-player Western Province team that secured victory at the 2014 SA u19 Inter-provincial Tournament (IPT). Hayden teamed up with Cole Cruickshank to win four out of five foursomes matches and won two of his five singles matches as part of an effort that saw the WP team go through the tournament unbeaten.

SAGDB graduates relish chance to play at Sun City

Two of the SAGDB's top graduates, Andile Adam from Eastern Province and Siyanda Mwandla from KwaZulu-Natal, had the chance to test themselves on the Gary Player Country Club course in the lead up to last year's Nedbank Golf Challenge. The two were selected by the SAGDB to play in the Nedbank Golf Challenge Pro-Am at the invitation of The Sports Trust.

SAGDB players impress at Sports Trust Challenge

Four players from the SAGDB were given the exciting opportunity to compete at The Sports Trust Challenge at Sun City in December. The event takes place every year on the Gary Player Country Club course the day after the Nedbank Challenge and affords amateurs the opportunity to play the course as it was set up for the professionals.

First NOMDAS Fun Day held in WP

The inaugural NOMADS Fun Day, in association with the local SAGDB, was held during December at the River Club in Observatory, Cape Town. A total of 71 children from the various development programs in the Western Province participated.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
