Mahoney in the money at Kuilsrivier Classic

KUILSRIVIER, 24 June 2015 - Trevor Mahoney hoped his first start on the IGT Cape would be a winning one and there was no misinterpreting the broad smile on his face when he birdied the 18th at Kuilsrivier Golf Club to claim victory in the Kuilsrivier Classic on Wednesday.

Two SAGDB players win Glacier titles

In what is an historic boost for the reputation of the development programme, two SAGDB players have won titles in the Glacier Junior Series within a month of each other. The first produced a huge upset, while the other made history by continuing to dominate a tournament he has made his own.

First SAGDB IPT to take place in July

The inaugural SAGDB/Nomads/Imperial Auto/MFC Teams Challenge is set to take place early next month. The tournament is an opportunity for teams of the top SAGDB players from around the country to compete against each other for the honour of being named the best SAGDB region.

The cream of SAGDB talent in Border, Zethu Myeki and sisters Siviwe and Yolanda Duma, drummed home a 20 stroke victory over Ekurhuleni A to claim the Challenge Trophy title before an excited home crowd at the recent Womens Golf South Africa 72 Hole Teams Championship in East London.

Presidents team shows SAGDB flavour

Three players with links to the SAGDB were selected to represent the President's Team at the 2015 Challenge Cup Teams Tournament. The prestigious national event featured teams from Central Gauteng, Gauteng North and Western Province, as well as an SA Juniors side and a Universities team.

SAGDB players lift Rondebosch

The Rondebosch Golf Club's junior side romped to a six-nil victory over Belville in the recent Western Province Golf Union Junior League Finals played at Mowbray Golf Club. The six player team contained five current members of the SAGDB's elite squad in the region.

SAGDB stands against xenophobia

The SAGDB programme in the Free State has joined the many voices in South Africa speaking out against the recent xenophobic violence in the country. The board's development manager in the region, Ratha Motaung, says that they used the opportunity to raise the issue with the children in their programme and promote goodwill towards foreign nationals.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
