SAGDB players perform at u23 Teams Tournament

Ten current and three past SAGDB players competed for the various provinces at the recent SA u23 Teams Tournament at the Country Club Johannesburg. In all, seven of the teams had at least one SAGDB player in their ranks.

SAGDB presence felt at Riversdal Triangular

Ten players from the SAGDB competed at the recent Riversdal Triangular tournament that featured u19 and u17 teams from Western Province, Boland and the Southern Cape. All three provinces included SAGDB players in their teams.

Golf in the Garden Route supports local development

Golf tourism company Golf in the Garden Route has once again lent its support to the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) in the Southern Cape. The company handed over a cheque for R7 000 to the SAGDB at the George Golf Club to aid the development of local players.

Hilmi shows his ability in WP

The April school holidays saw a record number of SAGDB players participating in two Western Province Golf Union (WPGU) junior events. To cap it all 15-year old Hilmi Mallick was crowned the winner at the Bellville Junior Open with an outstanding 3 under 69, beating his nearest challenger by 5 shots.

Zethu earns a top 10 finish at the SA Amateur

SAGDB graduate Zethu Myeki is on a roll. Earlier this year she won the Border Ladies Championships, and in April she claimed sixth place at the Sanlam South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship at Glendower.

Stellar showing at Porterville

SAGDB players put in a fantastic performance at the recent Porterville Junior Open in the Boland. Members of the development programme won three of the four age groups at the tournament.

Cassidy to captain WGSA team at 72-hole Teams Championship

One of the SAGDB's top girls, Cassidy Williams from Boland, has been named as the captain of the Womens Golf SA (WGSA) Invitational Team that will compete at this year's 72-hole Teams Championship. The event takes place later this month at the East London Golf Club.

Boland u13 players shine

Two u13 players from the SAGDB's programme in the Boland recorded wins in recent events. Twelve-year olds Alric Rooi and Hezron Frieslaar put in performances that confirmed that the development programme is doing the right things in unearthing young talent in the region.

Good returns in Central Gauteng

In a strong showing for the development programme, players from the SAGDB were amongst in the prizes in all three of the recent junior tournaments they entered in Central Gauteng. The tournaments form part of the official Central Gauteng Golf Union Junior Tournament schedule.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng Central, Gauteng North, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
