An eye on the future

Over the last fifteen years, the SA Golf Development Board has become an important part of the country's golfing landscape. It now has operations in all 14 of the SAGA-affiliated unions, where it works in partnership with clubs and the golf unions to offer coaching to thousands of juniors from disadvantaged backgrounds.

SAGDB players put in strong showings at Womens IPT

There was a strong SAGDB presence at this year's South African Women's Inter-Provincial Championship played at Centurion Country Club. Four of the provincial teams competing at the event included players with links to the development programme.

The 2015 South African Inter-Provincial Championship may be mostly remembered for the dominant showing by the team from Central Gauteng, but it was also another event where players from the SAGDB proved once again that they can compete at the highest level.

Crystal earns a top ten place at Ackerman Championship

Fourteen year old Crystal Beukes from the Boland is already making quite a name for herself. Despite competing against girls much older than her, she is already within the top 20 of the Womens Golf SA junior rankings.

SAGDB players lift Rondebosch at Louis' Champs

The annual Louis Oosthuizen SA Junior Club Team Championship was held at Langebaan Country Estate towards the end of September. The event saw top junior club teams from around the country competing for national honours.

Hilmi claims fifth place at Lion of Africa Junior Open

One of the SAGDB's top players in Western Province, fifteen year old Hilmi Mallick, put in in a spirited display at the recent Lion of Africa Junior Open at Clovelly Country Club in Cape Town.

Success in WP school's league

The SAGDB entered two teams into this year's Western Province Schools Golf League - one into the north league and one in the south. Both performed admirably, reaching the finals in their respective areas.

Caps for Atlantis

The SAGDB's newest coaching chapter in Western Province was opened in Atlantis in April this year. In just a few months has already established itself as an important part of the board's work in the region.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
