SAGDB players shine for president's team

Six players with ties to the SAGDB turned out for the President's Team at the recent Challenge Cup. The event pits three top provincial sides against a team of SA Juniors, an SA Universities side and the President's Team that is selected from top players who have come through development programmes in the country.

The 2016 Stellenbosch Club Championships turned out to be a day to remember for the SAGDB. Players with links to the development programme won both the men's and women's events.

SAGDB players collected prizes across all the age groups at the recent Porterville Junior Closed tournament in the Boland.

Zethu wins in Gauteng

SAGDB graduate Zethu Myeki underlined her status as one of the country's leading amateur women golfers with victory at the 2016 Gauteng Championship Match Play event earlier this month. This was Zethu's second match play win of the season, following her success at the Western Province Championships in March.

Cedric wins again

SAGDB graduate Cedric Rooi continued his outstanding form on the Boland amateur circuit this year with victory at the recent Bobby Locke Open in Robertson. Cedric carded rounds of 71 and 66 to finish on seven under par.

Zethu leads Border to fourth place at 72-Hole Teams Championship

Last year Border earned promotion to the top division of the Womens Golf SA 72-Hole Teams Championship by storming to victory in the second division Challenge Trophy. This year they were determined to show that they belonged there.

SAGDB team dominates primary schools golf league

The second edition of the Western Province Golf Union Primary Schools Golf League recently took place at the Old Mutual Golf Club mashie course in Pinelands. A total of 44 players from 11 teams challenged each other in ideal golfing conditions at the event.

Neswill and Siyanda both finish in the top 10

Two of the SAGDB's top graduates, Neswill Croy from Boland and Siyanda Mwandla from KwaZulu-Natal both finished in the top ten at the recent KwaZulu-Natal Open. Their performance once again underlined how players from the development programme are competing successfully at top amateur level.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
