SAGDB players do SA proud

Two players from the SAGDB represented South Africa at the recent 8th Albatross International Golf Championship in India, and came away with their reputations enhanced. As a team, Carl Mwale and Alkin Barkley from the SAGDB's programme in Cental Gauteng claimed a top 10 finish in the boys event, while both finished within the top 15 in the individual competition.

Lyle and Chandler Qualify for Malaysia

Thirteen year old Lyle Pedro and 17-year old Chandler Shaw are heading overseas. The SAGDB pair recently qualified for two international events that will see them taking on some of the best golfers in their age groups from around the world.

The SAGDB's top player in Central Gauteng, Chandler Shaw, added another accolade to his budding career with victory at The Golf School of Excellence (TGSE) Junior Tour Final event played on the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington West Course.

Making history in KZN

Players from the SAGDB's programme in KwaZulu-Natal put in exceptional performances at the recent 2016 Nomads KZN Junior Golf Strokeplay and Matchplay. The prestigious event was played at Mount Edgecombe Country Club and on the Durban Country Club Beachwood course.

Sunshine Tour pros make time for SAGDB youngsters

Eight players from the SAGDB in Limpopo enjoyed a day to remember ahead of the recent Vodacom Origins of Golf Pro-Am played at Euphoria Golf Estate. The youngsters were given an exclusive clinic by some of the professionals competing in the event, and came away inspired.

Gerhard wins again

The SAGDB's top player in Limpopo, Gerhard Pepler added another trophy to his growing collection last month. The 16-year old from Lephalale took first place at the recent Thabazimbi Bielie van die Bosveld Stroke Play.

Success in Boland

Players from the SAGDB won three of the four divisions at the recent Theewaterskloof junior closed. It was another confirmation of the success that is being achieved in the programme in the Boland.

Great interest in SAGDB clinic in Phuthaditjhaba

Nearly 90 children attended a recent introductory session to golf held by the SAGDB in Phuthaditjhaba in the Free State. The event, which provided four hours of coaching and training, was part of the development programme's drive to introduce the game of golf to a wider audience.

About the SAGDB


The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
