Good news in EP

The SAGDB's programme in Eastern Province received a big boost during August with news that two of its players had received provincial recognition. This is confirmation of the good work being done in the region.

Success in Boland

Players from the SAGDB programme in Boland produced a string of outstanding performances at three recent junior golf events. They played their way to the top of the leaderboard in all of them.

Two titles for Gerhard

The SAGDB's Gerhard Pepler is currently the top junior in Limpopo, but he is also making his presence felt at senior level. The 16-year from Lephalale won two senior opens in a row during the month of August.

Strong showing in Sishen

Juniors from the SAGDB's programme in the Northern Cape finished second and third in the u19 division of the recent Sishen Junior Open. This was the last chance for players to gain points on the region's order of merit.

Siyanda sizzles

One of the SAGDB's top graduates, Siyanda Mwandla, once again proved his talent at the recent eLAn KwaZulu-Natal Amateur Championship. He won 36-hole Stroke Play Qualifier at the Margate Country Club in wire-to-wire fashion.

Zethu takes third in Kimberley

SAGDB graduate Zethu Myeki has continued her oustanding form on the womens amateur circuit. The East London golfer finished third at the recent Northern Cape Championship in Kimberley.

Siviwe defends her title

Siviwe Duma successfully defended her individual title at the recent EP/Border Championships. The SAGDB graduate from Mdantsane outside East London also teamed up with her sister Yolanda to once again claim the team title for West Bank Golf Club.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
