SAGDB boys revel in opportunity to play Nedbank Golf Challenge Pro-Am

Two of the SAGDB's most promising youngsters, Riaan Rooi from Riverside Golf Club in Boland and Thabiso Magwaza from Umhlali Golf Club in KwaZulu-Natal, were given the incredible opportunity to play in the Pro-Am ahead of this year's Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City. The pair were invited by The Sports Trust, which has been a long-time supporter of the SAGDB.

Hans Merensky backs SAGDB youngsters

When Muhluri Mahime, Thulani Mathebula and Paul Mawasha received the news that they had been selected to compete for Limpopo at the upcoming u19 Inter-Provincial Tournament, the three SAGDB players were thrilled. However, each player in the team was asked to contribute R1 000 to covering their tournament expenses, which the three simply couldn't afford.

Angelo wins in Malmesbury

The top u15 player in the Boland, Angelo Keffers, added another prize to his growing collection with victory in the u15 event at the recent Malmesbury Junior Tournament. The SAGDB youngster carded a round of 80 to finish first in his age group.

Zethu soars in Mpumalanga

The SAGDB's top female graduate, Zethu Myeki from Border, ended the year on a high note with victory at the Mpumalanga Ladies Championship. The event is the last major tournament on the South African women's amateur calendar.

Tshepo shines in Clarens

One of the top players from the SAGDB in the Free State put in an excellent performance at the recent 3M tournament played at the Clarens Golf Estate. Tshepo was one of four players from the development programme invited to compete at the event.

Cass soaks up the sun in Mauritius

SAGDB junior Cass Muller enjoyed an incredible trip to Mauritius in the first weekend of December. Cass is also a member of the Louis Oosthuizen Academy in Mosselbay, and he was selected to accompany Oosthuizen to the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open.

New equipment for juniors at Sun City

The SAGDB's programme in the North West region received a boost with a donation of new equipment to the Sun City coaching chapter. Development coach Peter Mazibuko is currently teaching 15 children from his base at the Lost City Golf Club.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
