SAGDB players score incredible MVP double at u19 IPT

In what was an incredible week for the country's golf development programme, players from the SAGDB earned the titles of most valuable player (MVP) in both the A and B sections of the 2016 South African u19 Inter-provincial Tournament (IPT) last month. This is the clearest indication yet of how successful the programme has become at finding and nurturing golfers of real talent.

SAGDB well represented at u19 IPT

A total of 15 players from SAGDB programmes across the country turned out for their provinces at the recent South African u19 Inter-provincial Tournament (IPT). The event is the most prestigious competition on the country's junior golfing calendar and brings together the top young players from South Africa's fourteen golfing regions.

Clean sweep for SAGDB players in Worcester

In a winning start to the year, juniors from the SAGDB made a clean sweep of the age group prizes at the recent Worcester Junior Closed event in Boland.

Top ten for Carl

Carl Mwale from Central Gauteng finished tied 8th at the recent Golf RSA Nomads South African Boys Under-15 Championship. The tournament played at Koro Creek Bushveld Golf Estate in the Limpopo Province brought together all the top juniors in this age group.

Riaan and Hilmi earn top 20 finishes in Durban

Riaan Rooi from Boland and Hilmi Mallick from Western Province put in strong showings at the first Golf RSA Nomads National Order of Merit event of 2016 earlier this month. Both boys finished in the top 20 at the Royal Durban Golf Club to get their years off to a good start.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
