Carl grabs third place at SA Boys Under-17 Champs

One of the SAGDB's brightest young stars, Carl Mwale, put in a superb performance at this year's Nomads SA Boys Under-17 Championship at Rustenburg Golf Club. In a field of top juniors, the 15-year old from Eagle Canyon in Central Gauteng put together rounds of 71, 69 and 70 to finish third.

Second place for Tristan at Royal Cape

Tristan Galant may spend most of his time in the US these days, but he still proudly calls himself a member of the SAGDB. The 15-year old is currently studying at the Bishops Gate Golf Academy in the United States, but whenever he returns to South Africa during his holidays, he is quick to put his SAGDB hat back on.

Reghard victorious at White River

The SAGDB's top junior in Mpumalanga, Reghard Viljoen, claimed victory at the recent White River Junior Open. On the tough White River Country Club course, Reghard carded rounds of 74 and 72 to take the trophy.

Gerhard soars in Mpumalanga

Over the last two years the SAGDB's Gerhard Pepler has established himself as the top junior in the Limpopo province. However, a recent career move for his parents recently saw Gerhard move to Secunda in Mpumalanga, where he will have to re-establish himself.

SAGDB graduate Makhetha Mazibuko continues to enjoy a promising year on the professional circuit. The Free Stater has moved up to 7th place on the IGT Tour order of merit after two strong performances this month.

Mwandla claims second in Durban

Siyanda Mwandla continued his excellent form in 2017 with a tied second place finish at the recent David Suddards Trophy at Durban Country Club. The SAGDB graduate and current development coach in the region put together rounds of 70 and 69 to finish just two shots behind the winner Malcolm Mitchell.

About the SAGDB


The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
