SAGDB players show mettle in Challenge Cup

Five players with links to the SAGDB turned out for the President's Team at the recent Challenge Cup. Current SAGDB junior Cole Stevens from Central Gauteng, teamed up with graduates Siyanda Mwandla, Keelan Africa, Neswill Croy and Lwazi Gqira at the event.

Carl grabs a top 20 in Indonesia

One of the SAGDB's top juniors, Carl Mwale, put in an excellent showing at this month's Ciputra Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship at Damai Indah Golf in Jakarta, Indonesia. Carl was one of four South African players – two boys and two girls – selected to represent their country at the tournament.

Strong showing in Boland

SAGDB players from the programme in the Boland put in an excellent showing at the recent Porterville Junior Closed tournament. They finished amongst the prizes across all age groups.

Siyanda secures a top 10 at Selborne

SAGDB graduate Siyanda Mwandla is continuing to move his way up the national order of merit. The KwaZulu-Natal player, who is also a coach for the development programme near Durban, claimed sixth place at the KZN Open Strokeplay Championships played recently at Selborne Golf Club.

Makhetha takes second at Randpark

SAGDB graduate Makhetha Mazibuko was right in the thick of it at the recent Randpark Firethorn Challenge on the IGT Challenge Tour. Going into the final round he was just two shots off the lead, and he knew he was in with a real chance.

About the SAGDB


The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
