Scots take the honours at annual triangular

The Scottish Golf National Squad scored an emphatic victory at this year's triangular tournament against the GolfRSA Juniors and a team from the SAGDB. The event has become a regular feature of the Scottish team's yearly visit to South African shores.

SAGDB boys off to the high performance centre

Two youngsters from the SAGDB's programme in Ekurhuleni will soon have a new home-away-from-home. Fourteen-year old Bandile Mokoena and 13-year old Senzo Funeka have been accepted into the High Performance Centre (hpc) at the University of Pretoria on a full-time basis.

Zethu wins in East London

SAGDB graduate Zethu Myeki continues to shine on the South African amateur circuit. Playing at her home course of East London Golf Club, the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation member won the Border Matchplay Championship and finished runner-up in the closely contested strokeplay event.

Gerhard takes the honours in Tzaneen

The SAGDB's top player in Limpopo, Gerhard Pepler, added another trophy to his cabinet in February. The 16-year old from Lephalale completely outgunned the rest of the field to take first place at the Tzaneen Junior Open.

Top ten finish for Franklin at Curro SAJI

The SAGDB's Franklin Manchest finished tied for seventh at the recent Curro South African Juniors International (SAJI). The event, played at Durbanville Golf Club, forms part of the Global Junior Golf schedule.

Crystal secures two top tens

One of the SAGDB's most promising girls, 16-year old Crystal Beukes from the Boland, put in two encouraging performances at recent Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA) events. The Stellenbosch junior finished in the top ten at both the Eastern Province and Border championships, placing ahead of some of the country's top women amateurs.

Keelan sets new course record in Montagu

SAGDB graduate Keelan Africa blew away the rest of the field at the recent Montagu Open in the Boland. He won the 36-hole event by 8 shots after carding a course-record 62 in the second round.

Players from the SAGDB programme in Border delivered excellent performances at the recent Queenstown junior open. Four juniors finished amongst the prizes.

SAGDB juniors lend a hand at Eye of Africa event

Youngsters from the SAGDB's programmes in Central Gauteng and Ekurhuleni had some of the best seats in the house at the recent Eye of Africa PGA Championships. The event was played at Eikenhof, Johannesburg in mid-February.

About the SAGDB


The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
