“The SAGDB changed my life”

My name is Ebron Mgidlana. I stay in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, and I’m currently 20 years old.

I grew up playing golf where we stayed at Bank Colliery in Middelburg. They only had a nine hole golf course and I received golf lessons from Johan van Rensburg, the greenkeeper.

Good returns in KZN

Andre wins at Sun City

The SAGDB's top junior in the North West, Andre van Dyk, put in an excellent showing at the recent Sun City junior tournament in the province. He carded a round of 70 over the Gary Player Country Club to take first place at the event.

Players from the SAGDB's programme in Central Gauteng dominated the recent junior tournament at Killarney Golf Club. They claimed prizes across all three divisions.

Siyanda secures a top 10 at Westlake

SAGDB graduate Siyanda Mwandla put in another strong performance on the local amateur circuit at the recent Western Province Amateur played at Westlake Golf Club. In the event that was shortened to 54 holes due to inclement weather, the player from KwaZulu-Natal put together rounds of 69, 73 and 70 to claim a share of 8th place.

Zethu shares 5th place at SA Amateur

The SAGDB's top woman graduate, Zethu Myeki, was once again near the top of the field at this year's Sanlam South African Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship. The amateur star from Mdantsane in Border carded rounds of 76, 70 and 71 at Wanderers Golf Club to earn a share of fifth spot.

About the SAGDB


The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
