SAGDB players thrilled by Australia experience

Five players from the SAGDB enjoyed an incredible opportunity this month when they travelled to Sydney, Australia to compete in the Jack Newton International Junior Classic. The trip was made possible through support from Nomads and Konica Minolta.

Hilmi blazing a trail for development golf

Trafalgar High matric student Hilmi Mallick narrowly missed out on a chance to qualify for a glittering tournament in the USA, losing to Sam Simpson of Bellville in a sudden death play-off in the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series event at Strand Golf Club last month.

Rorisang helps North West to second

SAGDB junior Rorisang Nkosi was part of the North West U13 team that put in a brave performance at the recent Nomads SA Under-13 Championship at Port Elizabeth Golf Club. They pushed eventual winners Central Gauteng all the way, but eventually had to settle for second place for the second year running.

Clean sweep for the SAGDB in Kleinmond

It was an excellent day for the SAGDB at the recent Kleinmond Junior Closed tourmament. Players from the development programme in Boland won all four age groups at the event.

Golf Challenge set for December

The SAGDB/Nomads/Imperial Auto/MFC Golf Challenge will once again take place at the end of this year. The event takes the form of an inter-provincial competition between the SAGDB's various regions.

The SAGDB's top woman graduate, Zethu Myeki, added yet another podium finish to her impressive CV at the prestigious Ackerman Championship at Atlantic Beach Golf Club this month.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
