Alkin and Kifentse's trip of a lifetime

Promising SAGDB juniors Alkin Barkley from Central Gauteng and Kifentse Nukeri from Gauteng North will never forget 2017. The two of them recently returned from a golfing trip to Scotland where they not only played on some of the world's most famous courses, but rubbed shoulders with some of the world's most famous golfers.

Great experience for Andre in Italy

The SAGDB's top player in the North West, Andre van Dyk, was one of four GolfRSA Juniors selected to take part in the recent 11th Reply Italian International Under-16 Championship in Biella, Italy. And he made the most of the opportunity.

Crystal, a golfing gem

Later this year, Crystal Beukes will be heading to Australia to compete in the Jack Newton International Junior Classic. The 16-year old from Somerset West, is not however daunted by the prospect of competing against some of the world's top amateurs.

So close for Hilmi

Promising Rondebosch Golf Club junior Hilmi Mallick came within a whisker of victory at the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series event at Strand Golf Club earlier this month. Hilmi tied for first place after carding a one-under par round of 71.

Consistent Zethu does it again

The SAGDB's top female graduate, Zethu Myeki put in yet another solid performance on the local women's amateur circuit last month. Zethu put together rounds of 74, 74 and 78 in tough conditions to finish third at the Southern Cape Women's Open and Closed Championship.

Success in Swellendam


Two SAGDB juniors tasted victory at the Swellendam Junior Closed tournament this month. Riverside Golf Club Juniors, Jody Hanmer and Lee-Quin Engelbrecht both walked away with prizes.

About the SAGDB

 

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
