Central Gauteng junior Cole Stevens put in another outstanding performance at the recent Nomads SA Boys Under-19 Stroke Play Championship at Woodhill Country Club. He carded rounds of 69, 70, 69 and 68 to finish in a tie for second place, just one shot behind the winner Deon Germishuys.

Rorisang shines at SA U-15

One of the brightest talents in the SAGDB programme, 13-year old Rorisang Nkosi, put in another outstanding display at the recent Gowrie SA Under-15 Challenge played at Gowrie Farm. Rorisang put together rounds of 71, 69 and 75 to finish third overall in a field of the country's top U-15 players.

Strong showing from Mazibuko

SAGDB graduate Makhetha Mazibuko put in an excellent performance at the IGT Challenge Tour event at Killarney Country Club earlier this month. The Free State professional carded rounds of 65, 72 and 70 to secure fourth place.

SA golf development enters new era

Golf development in South Africa will break new ground with the launch of the Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour in April. Born out of a close collaboration between the Sunshine Tour and the IGT Challenge Tour, the co-sanctioned Big Easy IGT Challenge Tour will comprise of 15 tournaments and a Tour Championship at The Els Club Copperleaf.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
