The talent in the SAGDB's national programme was in full display at the Africa Junior Open played at Fish River Sun earlier this month. Central Gauteng's Cole Stevens and Carl Mwale both finished in the top 10 at the tournament.

SAGDB influence lifts Curro Aurora to SA High School Champs double

The SAGDB's Carl Mwale and Cole Stevens led their school Curro Aurora to a successful defence of their title at the eighth South African High School Championship this month. The pair teamed up with Kieron van Wyk to secure a wire-to-wire victory at Devonvale Golf and Wine Estate.

Cole on a roll

Seventeen year old Cole Stevens has been a leading light in the SA Golf Development Board (SAGDB) this year. The youngster from Parkview Golf Club, who is part of the GolfRSA men's national squad, has firmly established himself as one of the country's job juniors with a string of outstanding performances

Strong showing at Mini Masters

The SAGDB's top players in the Western Province, Tristan Galant and Hilmi Mallick, put in excellent performances at the recent Mini Masters held at King David Mowbray Golf Club. The pair tied for fourth place at the event, which drew many of the region's top players.

Rorisang impresses at Sun City

North West junior Rorisang Nkosi claimed a share of tenth place at the recent Sun City Under-15 Challenge. The event brought together some of the top u15 players from around the country.

Success in Malmesbury

The SAGDB's Angelo Keffers took first place at the recent Malmesbury u15 & u13 tournament. He shot a round of 75 to finish well clear of the rest of the field.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
