Boland Golf Union shows support for Aidon

The SAGDB's top player in the Boland, Aidon Willemse, was recently given a big boost by the Boland Golf Union. The union handed over a new set of TaylorMade clubs to the youngster ahead of one of the biggest trips of his life.

Tristan stars in triangular

Tristan Galant was a star performer for Western Province at the recent triangular inter-provincial event at Robertson Golf Club. Playing in the U17 division Tristan won his singles, betterball and foursomes matches to finish with a full haul of 12 out of 12 points.

SAGDB girls shine at Gauteng Ladies Champs

Two of the SAGDB's most promising girls, Tebogo Lefifi and Palesa Rafutho, put in an excellent showing at the recent Gauteng Proshop Championship. The tournament brought together all the top ladies in the province.

Kagiso recognised at Imperial/Nomads Challenge

Gauteng youngster Kagiso Bogopane was amongst a select group of SAGDB juniors invited by the Nomads to participate in the Imperial/MFC Challenge at Champage Sports last month. Nomads has been a long time supporter of the work done by the development programme.

Top ten for Nethunzwi

SAGDB graduate Musiwalo Nethunzwi finished in a tie for sixth place at the recent IGT Challenge Tour event at Irene Country Club. The Soweto professional carded rounds of 71, 71 and 68 to finish 6-under par for the 54-hole event.

Malevu soars at Kilbarchan

Walter Malevu has a long history with the SAGDB. He graduated out of the programme in KwaZulu-Natal before turning his hand to coaching. He is now one of the SAGDB's coaches in the region.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
