Competing for a place in the prestigious Junior North and South Championship at Pinehurst in the USA inspired South Africa's top juniors to play some magnificent golf during the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series over the last 10 months.

There was a strong SAGDB influence in the GolfRSA President's Team that competed at the recent SA Challenge Cup at Irene Country Club. Rising junior star Carl Mwale from Central Gauteng joined SAGDB graduates Siyanda Mwandla from KwaZulu-Natal and Lwazi Gqira from Border in the eight man team at the event.

SAGDB graduates fight it out in Malmesbury

Cedric Rooi and Neswill Croy may be good friends off the course, but on it they are fierce competitors. The pair, who are two of the SAGDB's top graduates from Boland, found themselves in a real tussle for supremacy at the recent Malmesbury Open.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
