SAGDB wins prestigious international award

The SAGDB has earned international recognition by becoming the latest project to be awarded the PGAs of Europe President’s Award for Golf Development. Managing director Grant Hepburn received the award at the 2018 Annual Congress Gala Awards Dinner Supported By Rolex at Costa Navarino in Greece.

SAGDB's presence felt at U19 IPT

Ekuhuleni were the big winners at the 2018 South African Under-19 Inter-Provincial Tournament in December, claiming victory for the second year in a row. However, the competition also once again highlighted how significant the SAGDB's role in junior golf in the country has become.

The SAGDB looks to 2019

This year will mark the SAGDB's twentieth anniversary. The inspiration to formalise an organisation that would take responsibility for growing the game of golf across South Africa has led to amazing successes over these years.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.

 

Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.

 

Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
