Cole cherishes Olympic experience

He didn’t quite reach the goals he set for himself, but the SAGDB's Cole Stevens will have gained an enormous amount from his performance at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Argentina. The GolfRSA National Squad member was selected with Kaiyuree Moodley to represent South Africa at the event and he came away with a wealth of experience.

Carl secures thrilling win

Carl Mwale of Eagle Canyon Golf Estate in Honeydew scored one of the biggest wins of his young career when the teen shot a 67 to lift his first Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series title on a day of exceptional scoring at Waterkloof Golf Club, Pretoria last month.

Taking a swing at golfing glory

He still has a long way to go, but already Jaydon Galant, 11, thinks he has what it takes to become South Africa's number one golfer.

Considering his performance since he swung his first club five years ago, the youngster from the SAGDB's programme in the Western Cape is certainly one to keep an eye on. In a relatively short while he has build a reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

Coaching clinic gets thumbs up at Arabella

Lewellyn Buys, an aspiring golf player from Worcester says he learnt a lot from the coaching clinic which was organised by Vodacom Origins of Golf in partnership with the South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) at Arabella Country Club recently.

One step at a time

The gains made by players in the SAGDB programme may sometimes seem small, but their significance can be far greater than first appearances suggest.

Last month 13-year old Phetolo Mahlo played in his first Limpopo Junior Open. After 72 holes of golf, he qualified for the matchplay.

Success in Bredasdorp

Players from the SAGDB's programme in the Boland dominated the recent Bredasdorp Junior Closed tournament. They not only won the overall competition, but won in every age group at the event.

About the SAGDB

The South African Golf Development Board (SAGDB) is a non-profit organisation with section 18A donations tax exemption status. Since its formation in 1999, the SAGDB has grown a network of coaches and officials who work across the country to develop the game in the cities and also the most remote areas. It currently operates in Boland, Border, Central Gauteng, the Eastern Province, Free State, Gauteng North, Kwazulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Northern Cape, North West, the Southern Cape, and Western Province.


Through its PGA-approved LTAD coaching programme, the board currently has the capacity to coach 2,500 children per week in 10 regions.


Since its inception, the SAGDB has coached over 17 000 youngsters, produced 1 senior national player and 4 players in the senior national squad, 25 senior provincial and u23 players, 108 junior provincial players, and four players in the senior national squad. Over 1 500 players have participated in junior golf tournaments and 34 of its most talented players have been invited to join prestigious and recognised High Performance Centres such as the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation. Six former SAGDB players have earned their tour cards on the Sunshine Tour.
